Mr. Sulu Lends Support to Gay Student Activists
George Takei, better know to Star Trek fans around the world as 'Mr. Sulu', helmsman of the original starship U.S.S Enterprise, made a surprise appearance Monday with 33 gay rights activists at North Central University in downtown Minneapolis. The activists, calling themselves Soulforce Equality Riders are traveling by bus to hold rallies at 19 Colleges with policies opposed to homosexuality. The 68-year-old actor, who came 'out of the closet' last year, told the participants that the activists share themes with those of the Star Trek world.
